Summer Vacation

Yesterday was the first day of summer Vacation. Actually I was able to get everything accomplished - the basics  before the last day of school. We had 4 half days for students . So I got my grades done  and my summer reading list for the website.
And I got my budget finalized and did not lose any funds.
The end of year items were also completed. We did not do inventory this year. I had planned to do it in September  but 2 weeks before school , they dropped the bomb that I was to have  5 classes per day plus a study hall. So the year was done on a minimal basis.
So now I am focused on relaxing, catching up on house work, writing , and of course reading!

Literacy Calendar

The New York State Library has a website DayByDayNY for families with young children.  It is part of an early literacy program initiative called Read to Read at New York Libraries.
The site was designed for use by families across NY State. It has am interactive calendar to help young children develop a love of books and learning that will last a life time.
Multi media is used to enhance books , songs, and health issues resources. Even just a few minutes a day spent together using this calendar  can  give families quality time that  is both educational and enjoyable!

Summer Reading

What are you reading this summer?
I am reading some of my favorite authors- adult books which I like to read in the summer. I just completed my second Mary Stewart ( Rose Cottage). These are quick easy and satisfying reads for me. Great stories and well developed characters. and engaging plots.
What are you reading? I hope you are - its so nice to sit with a glass of tea in front of the fan and read. If it's not to hot I also like to sit outside.
Write and tell me what you are reading,

Summer Reading!

So what are you reading this summer? Summer is the perfect time to read. I have finished Stones into Schools (Mortenson) which is a sequel to Three Cups of Tea. This is the story of what Greg continues to work on building and setting up schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. This story was not as fluid reading but still worth while.
Many schools in our area are doing community of readers with the first book. Also check out the wonderful website that goes along with the Three Cups of Tea book, you will find many ideas and activities that can go along with the story.
